SCGB Code of Ethics
This Code of Ethics applies to everyone who has agreed to be subject to
the jurisdiction of the Schnauzer Club of Great Britain i.e. Club Members,
They, whether owner, keeper or in temporary charge of a dog for any purpose,
accept their responsibility in that:-
1. I/We will properly house, feed, water and exercise all dogs under my/our
care and arrange for appropriate veterinary attention if and when required.
2. I/We will not allow any of my/our dogs to roam or to cause a nuisance to
neighbours or those carrying out official duties.
3. When my/our dogs are away from home, I/We will ensure that they shall
wear properly tagged collars and shall be kept fully leashed or under
effective control.
4. I/We acknowledge responsibility to clean up after my/our dogs in public
places or anywhere where they are being exhibited
5 I/We agree that any Veterinary Surgeons operating on any of my/our dogs in
such a way that the operation alters the natural conformation of the dog and
any part thereof, may report such an operation to the Kennel Club.
6. I/We will (if I/We breed) use or give service to only registered stock
that is physically and temperamentally sound and in good health and
soundness.
7. I/We will only sell stock to homes where I am/We are satisfied the animal
will have a happy and healthy life and will help with the re-housing of a
dog if the initial circumstances change.
8. I/We will, when placing my/our dogs in new homes, provide written details
of all dietary requirements and supply guidance concerning responsible
ownership.
9. I/We will not knowingly sell any dog to commercial dog wholesalers,
retail pet dealers or directly or indirectly allow dogs to be given as a
prize or donation in any contest of any kind or as an unexpected gift.
10. In advertising I/We will be truthful and informative.
11. When selling or transferring a dog to another person. I/We will ensure
that all relevant documents are provided to the new owner, except by written
agreement by the seller and purchaser.
12. I/We will use the official Kennel Club and the SCGB standard of the 3
Breeds of Schnauzer when evaluating and breeding my/our own stock and
encourage its application in judging.
13. I/We agree that all our breeding stock will be eye-tested in accordance
with current SCGB/KC/BSVA advice and that all litters bred by me/us will be
eye-tested by an Eye Specialist prior to sale. I/We agree to submit copies
of all eye certificates (including litter screening certificates) before
my/our name(s) can be added to the Club’s ‘Puppies available’ lists.
